Upgrade outdated PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, and industrial control systems with EMAN FTC’s automation system upgrades and retrofitting services in Saudi Arabia. Improve equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and modernize existing automation infrastructure with cost-effective solutions.

Industrial Automation | Saudi Arabia

Outdated automation equipment doesn't always mean you need a completely new system. An aging PLC, faulty HMI, obsolete VFD or unreliable control panel can often be upgraded while keeping compatible equipment in place.

EMAN FTC helps factories, industrial facilities, construction contractors and electrical companies modernize existing automation systems through practical engineering, equipment upgrades, testing and commissioning.

What we do

Our Automation Upgrade and Retrofitting Services

We start with your existing equipment and the actual problem, then recommend a suitable upgrade rather than replacing everything by default.

PLC Upgrades and Legacy System Migration

When a PLC becomes obsolete, finding spare parts or maintaining its software can be difficult. We review the existing program, controller, field I/O and communication requirements before planning a migration.

Example: An aging PLC on a pumping system may be replaced while retaining compatible field sensors and wiring.

HMI and SCADA System Modernization

Outdated operator screens and unreliable communication make it harder to monitor equipment and respond to alarms. We support HMI configuration, screen updates, alarm settings, diagnostics and SCADA integration.

Example: A factory can assess replacing an obsolete HMI while keeping its working PLC, provided the replacement supports the required connections.

VFD and Motor Control Retrofitting

Frequent drive trips and aging motor-control equipment can interrupt pumps, fans and conveyors. We check motor and drive compatibility, support replacement planning, configure parameters and test PLC communication.

Example: An obsolete pump drive may be replaced with a compatible modern VFD, with the correct motor parameters and control signals configured.

Industrial Control Panel Upgrades

Existing panels may have worn contactors, obsolete relays, damaged wiring or outdated control hardware. We support panel modifications, component replacement, fault diagnosis, wiring checks and commissioning.

Example: An electrical contractor may need an MCC control circuit upgraded without rebuilding the entire cabinet, subject to a safety and condition assessment.
Keep what works

Upgrade Your Existing System Without Unnecessary Replacement

Before recommending new equipment, we look at what's installed, what is failing and which components can safely remain in use.

For example, if a production line has a faulty HMI but the PLC is operating correctly, replacing only the operator panel may be more practical than changing the complete automation system. The decision depends on compatibility, documentation and equipment condition.

When the cause is unclear, our Control System Fault Analysis Services can help identify the issue before repair or replacement work begins.

Frequently asked questions

Can we upgrade an old PLC without replacing the whole automation system?

In many cases, yes. If your sensors, wiring and other field equipment are still in good condition, they may be able to stay. The first step is checking how the replacement PLC will communicate with the equipment you already have.

Our HMI screen has failed. Do we also need a new PLC?

Not necessarily. Sometimes the practical fix is to replace the operator screen and reconnect it to the existing PLC. We would first check the HMI project file, communication settings and whether a compatible replacement is available.

Can we keep our existing sensors, motors and field wiring?

Often you can keep at least some of them. For example, a pumping station might need a new controller but not new level sensors or motor wiring. We would check signal types, voltage ratings, cable condition and safety requirements before deciding what is reusable.

Can a new PLC still communicate with our existing SCADA system?

It may be possible, even when the equipment is from different manufacturers. The key questions are which protocols both systems support, whether the right drivers are available, and how the existing tags and alarms are configured. Sometimes a gateway or software change is needed.

Can an old VFD be replaced with a newer model from another brand?

Yes, provided a suitable replacement can be selected. A drive is not always a direct swap: motor ratings, supply voltage, braking requirements, speed control signals and PLC communication all need checking. The new drive must also be configured and tested for the application.

What happens to our PLC program and machine settings during an upgrade?

We recommend securing whatever backups and documentation are available before making changes. Existing PLC programs, HMI screens and VFD settings may need converting or rebuilding for newer hardware. If the original program is missing or locked, the work can be more involved, so tell us about that early.

Will our factory need to stop production during retrofitting?

Some upgrades can be prepared and tested in advance, but the final changeover may still need a planned shutdown. For a production line, that might mean scheduling the cutover during a maintenance window and testing each critical function before restart. The downtime depends on the system; zero downtime should not be assumed.

Is it worth upgrading an old control panel, or should we replace it?

That depends on the panel itself. If the enclosure, wiring space and key components are sound, targeted upgrades may make sense. If there is extensive damage, overheating, unsafe wiring or too little room for new equipment, a replacement panel may be the better long-term decision.

Is retrofitting usually cheaper than buying a completely new system?

It can be, especially when reliable equipment and wiring can remain in place. But saving on hardware does not always mean saving on the whole project. Legacy software, undocumented wiring and difficult integrations can add engineering time. A proper comparison should include installation, testing and production downtime not just equipment prices.

How much does an automation system upgrade cost in Saudi Arabia?

There is no useful fixed price without knowing the scope. Replacing a single HMI is very different from migrating several PLC panels and their SCADA connections. Equipment models, I/O count, software access, site conditions and shutdown requirements all affect the quotation.

How long does a PLC or automation retrofit project take?

A small component replacement may be relatively straightforward; a full controller migration needs more planning, programming and testing. Lead times for replacement hardware can also affect the schedule. Sharing the model numbers and existing drawings helps us assess the work more accurately.

Do you work on small machines and single-panel upgrades?

A retrofit does not have to involve an entire factory. A small workshop might need a faulty motor drive replaced, while an electrical contractor may need help modifying one control panel. Share the equipment details and we can review whether the project fits the service scope.

Can we upgrade the system in stages instead of doing everything at once?

Often, yes. For example, a facility may prioritize a failing PLC first and modernize its operator screens or monitoring later. The important part is planning compatibility from the beginning so the first upgrade does not create problems for the next one.
